If this concerns you, I would look for a better or comparable position somewhere else as an alternative. Your employer might be "stringing you along" by promising something that they have no intention of giving you. If you do get a better offer and decide to go with it, don't be surprised if you are then offered a contract by your current employer. It's funny how it often works that way!

Give them a deadline. Tuesday moring September 04 at noon, or whatever. If not take a serious hard look at the why not, then it's time to take some one out for lunch over a serious contract discussion!.

Well obviously working without the contract you don't get the guarantees. I would seriously set a deadline. Let them know.

I had the same problem, don't stop getting on to the human resources department and your manager. you should idealy have a contract but this hardleys happens straight away. just pester them and it will finally work. i've just got mine through this morning after working for my employer for nearly a year, and the wordings wrong on it!!

I personally have "never" heard of a "contract" between an "employee" and employer, except, with Executives.
Sorry, have no idea about your situation.
As for status, there's no doubt that you have no guarantees without one.
