Depends on where you work, really.

But Katy and Pearland are better, IMHO. You should also consider Fort Bend County too...Sugar Land, Richmond, Rosenberg...

I have lived in Clear Lake, but have resided in Pearland for the past 19 years. Right now Pearland is one of the fastest growing cities in the county, state, and country. We have excellent schools. As for the flooding mentioned in an earlier answer, it only floods in one or two sections of town anymore and it is just street flooding which doesn't last long. We are on the west side of Pearland and have had water in our street 2 times in 19 years. Currently there are 2 malls being built with construction starting soon. The medical center is expanding out towards Pearland with 2 emergency centers open now, and 2 hospitals in the planning stages. Primary Care Physicans and every type of Specialist doctor are opening practices in Pearland right now. New homes are mainly being built on the west side of Pearland and start around 150K and go higher. Because Pearland is in Brazoria county, insurance on cars will be cheaper than in Harris County. Pearland is situated by Hwy 288 and Beltway 8. We can drive to any side of Houston in 30 mins or less, or be on the beach in 45 mins. Clear Lake and Katy both have traffic problems (freeway & inner-city). We also have a very low crime rate in Pearland. A comment was made earlier that Pearland was trashy, it's not. Pearland is a leader in enviornmental issues with a large recycling program city wide. Pearland has won many awards from the state for keeping the town beautiful and being a very safe enviornment to live in. I liked Clear Lake a lot when I lived there but it is just too congested anymore. Please take the time to visit all of the towns you have mentioned, they all have something to offer each in their own ways.

I'm originally from Clear Lake and now live in Santa Barbara, CA. I would choose Clear Lake. You will feel like a multi-millionare there because you will be able to buy a huge home for cash if you are currently a home owner in California.

In Clear Lake, people don't have any Texas accents (not that there is anything wrong with an accent). When I moved from Clear Lake to Huntington Beach, noone believed that I was from Texas.

If you have a family, you will be happy to know that they have an excellent school system, far superior to most California schools. Class sizes are around 30 students and the buildings are relatively new. My mom moved there specifically for the school system.

Everything is bigger in Texas - including the restaurants and the clubs. They are all multi-level, so get used to slightly louder environments.

I love going home to Clear Lake, but would never change my decision to move west. As a previous poster declared, it is hot and humid there. There are plenty of cockroaches and mosquitoes in the general area, so be prepared with bug spray.

Good luck!

You should take Katy out of the picture unless you love traffic. Pearland can get expensive but i would recomend moving to clear lake if you have a family, there is always something to do around those areas, but pearland and clearlake are almost the same somewhat. but katy is filled with trafific. stay far from there

Well I am from the area of south Houston, so personally I would choose Clear Lake. It really depends on what your looking for though. We are upper-middle class and that is more like the Clear Lake area. Pearland in my opinion is pretty trashy. I don't know anything about Katy. The Clear Lake area is really booming now, there are tons of new homes going up every day, and the commute to Houston isn't far either. There are also a lot of areas around Clear Lake that are great too like Bayarea. If you look at a map of Houston area, Go straight down highway 45...Once you get down to Bayarea-clear lake...pretty much any city right near those are going to be nice areas...middle to upper-middle class. Hope that helps.

Clear Lake was pretty much founded by folks from NASA. It has its charm. I used to live in Houston. Tell you the truth, I am not that fond of any of the areas around Houston. Depends on what you need to get to. Katy is waaaaay too much like Houston. Never lived in Pearland. Can't help you there.

Me? I live near Pismo Beach, CA and hope to for a long time yet.

I would personally choose Clear Lake, mainly because it isn't really growing anymore. Pearland is still growing and there is always so much traffic there. Katy....I haven't been to Katy too many times, but I've been through on I-10 and I hate I-10....thats some serious traffic.

I live in the Clear Lake area. It's real nice. It all depends on where you are going to work for access.

Here's the break down on all the areas for you:

Pearland,Tx, has great schools, they are one of the fastest growing Citys in the USA. People are friendly, great place to raise kids.

Clear Lake is laid back in many ways, but also has the keeping up with the Jones rep.
If you want style, move to a water front location in South Shore Harbor, or on the golf course. Great resale values their. But the roads have not yet caught up with the growth, but they are working on it now.

Katy is very far away from everywhere else in houston, they have more banks in Katy,Tx on one street than any where else in the houston area. We call it the A.s.s. end of America, because it's so far out from everywhere else. They had a good Police force and good schools, top rated.

If you move to Katy, you will find yourself vacationing in or around Clear Lake, it where everythings happening. So save time, move to the Lake, you will be happy you did.

Remember your money will go farther here, then in California, I use to live their also. I would say 3-1 on your money for houses here in Texas.

Also something to think about, it's 10-15 degrees cooler on the water, and it's hot enough in Texas.

I guess it will really depend on where you are working in the Houston area, but I would strongly recommend Katy over the other options as West Houston is much nicer/cleaner than South Houston.

2nd choice would be Clear Lake.

3rd choice would be Pearland.

Katy is very cheap but very boring. I would never want to live in Katy. It's too far out. Your wife will go desperate housewives on you.. Way too boring and isolating.

Get as close to downtown as you can.. I reccomend the Heights.

Clear Lake is probably the best of those 3..
