You probably didn't give the tank enough time to cycle. Keep your tank running as is for another three weeks. Then change half of the water before you buy new fish. Make sure your fish are at the right temperature, and be careful not to over-feed them as that can kill them right away.

Don't give up, this time reseach what type of fish you want, and make sure you can provide those conditions for them. Remember, with new fish, sometimes you will have a few die off, from the change and all, but keep your chin up. Let your tank cycle with new water for about 7 days, then go ahead and get some new fish. Get an aquarium book too, that is always helpful when trying to figure out little things here and there. I don't recomend live plants, only because sometimes you get a heap of trouble with them. Don't give up, the end result is well worth it. Sorry about your fish....

Jessie is right: it takes time before an aquarium gets established.
Try again, very few fish at a time. I've had fish for thirteen years now, and everything runs smoothly after the first disappointments.
Try the easier fish first (ask at the pet shop), though, and go slowly.

you need to let the aquarium run for a week or at least 3 days,
the water need's to adjust and also the ph of the water. Try
adding only 2 cheap fish at first. The rule of thumb is 1 fish
per gallon. good luck

I am guessing that they may have died because you put too many fish in at the same time, before the tank filters could biologically adjust to the extra animal waste...
I just recently did this, with my saltwater aquarium.
It is the BIGGEST bummer! I lost over $200 worth of fish.
Start over (I did), but add only one or two fish at a time over a period of MONTHS.

I knew they were all going to do. Dont ever get any other living creature again. Anyone with brains would have known to do research before getting animals. All those poor goldfish and tetras being crammed into a 10 gallon and then having their gills and bodies burned from all the ammonia. What a horrible way to die. You disgust me.
