Santa Cruz - there's lots of places to hike, shop, check out the beach and boardwalk, stop and eat along the pier. (less than one hour)

Alum Rock Park in San Jose if you're into nature & shady walks in the trees (30 min drive)

San Francisco, but that's a whole other question (about an hour if there's traffic then maybe a little more)

Berryessa Flea Market - Huge and fun for just hanging out buying stuff, they sell beer too. (20 minutes) .... it's pretty neat if you haven't been

Half Moon Bay - see if the highway is open first (Devil's Slide) (don't remember the distance, but closer than SF)

Depending on when you go check the local alternative paper (I don't know what it's called) and see what festivals are happening. Those are the most fun. (local)

1. Napa Valley wine
2. Mendocino for B&Bs
3. Monterey Bay Aquarium
4. Carmel and Big Sur
5. Without traffic - San Simeon and Hearst Castle

Mt. Tamalpais in Marin is good for an outdoor hike.
Muir Woods is near there, and it is also a good hike.

Napa Valley is great for a winery tour. Make sure someone is a designated driver.
