I assume you're talking about the USA? We're scarcely "knee-deep" in foreigners. Our foreign-born population was over 9% from 1850 to 1940, and often over 13%. It has only just gotten back over 10% in 2000. The 1940 - 1990 period where it was 9% or lower was the exception in US history.

We were more "knee-deep" in foreigners in the early 1900s. In fact, we were 3 times more "knee-deep" in foreigners at that point. The only difference was that we were not xenophobic back then as we are now.

Good Question! Because out of the kindness of our hearts, we open the doors to foreigners to allow them to live in a free and democratic government so they can better their lives. Not knowing that the Islamic countries would ever support terrorism, or allow an organization like Al Queda to exist. While we evacuated and financially supported South Vietnamese Politicans, Generals, and rich Vietnamese in the fall of Vietnam, while our war veterans lived in carboard boxes with $200.00 disability; etc., etc., etc., etc.

The native americans didn't have a cohesive central government or army to kick us out when we started colonizing...things pretty much went downhill from there I guess...
