Windows xp Home edition on Dell puter. Puter was wiped clean and no NIC can be found. Have reloaded XP disc 3 times to no avail. Cannot be found in new hardware, system, etc.

you may start with opening the case ,pull out the NIC card and read the mark on the main chip it should lead you to the type of the driver of the card ,try to download it from the Internet if you don't have it already on the software CD that came with the computer

Without more information about your Dell model I can give you a link to the dell website an the right driver for your system.

But if you go there you will find the correct driver for your system. There are also instructions on the website to identify you card. You can also go the device manager in the system under control panel. There you should find a yellow question mark next to your nic. There should be enough info there for you to identify and download the correct driver.

could be disabled from the bios if its an inbuilt card on the motherbord or the card could have came loose inside the machine, or the NIC has just failed
i would check the bios first to make sure the NIC is still turned on.
