-underwater
-in a room filled with poison ( I watch 24 too much)
-surrounded by things you are allergic to
-around perfume you REALLY hate the smell of
-around a bad smell
-scared
-trying to NOT make noise by not breathing
AND
-my husband holds his brath to stop hiccuping.

Kids sometimes hold their breath when they want to commit suicide. I used to do it all the time when I was a kid. People hold their breath to stop hiccups sometimes too. I heard that if you hold your breath for 10 seconds your hiccups will stop. I hold my breath when I don't want to breath in second hand smoke as well. I also will hold my breath if I am in one of those portable bathrooms that you find at concerts and carnivals. Can't think of any other reasons. Oh yeah! If someone farts and it smells really bad I'll hold my breath until it doesn't smell anymore. I guess that's it.

Besides preventing things that I don't want to inhale,(water, smoke, dust, etc,.) I hold my breath for temporary relief. Like when I'm about to get hit, I'd close my eyes and hold my breath before impact. I remember getting my tattoo and holding my breath everytime the guy would start drawing. Note: very bad idea.. The guy said I was turning pale and should just relax.

Entering the proximity of a pig sty might cause one to pass out, or hold their breath in lieu of passing out.

I hold my breath during the part of the eye exam when they blow air into my eye, so it doesn't have to be repeated because I moved.

To go under water, to get rid of the hiccups, to stop yourself from saying something you shouldn't and to make a wish while going under a tunnel, or I guess to kill yourself (which wouldn't be such a smart idea).
