Because jimbo, sports ARE more important than world events. Iraq? Where is that, South America? It's about time they took out Castro. Gotta go, preseason football. Hooorah

Do you think so? Last World Cup did not do much for most Americans, we did not get medals on Olympic for basketball but have tons off expensive basketball players. Do you know that we have a world champion badminton on men's double, the fastest sport. So what sports are we talking about? Football? who else play this? they play rugby. Baseball? yeah, we like to watch it, because we can eat hot dogs, nachos, chips, and other fattening foods with beers. That's why sports are important for Americans.

Why did the Romans think bread and circuses were more important than being overrun by the barbarians?
The same analogy applies to both circumstances - Americans drool on the cheerleaders as a soldier gets blown up in Iraq.

May I propose this answer.
Most American citizens have gotten over the need, want, or desire to harm, destroy, or kill others because of race, religion, politics, or culture.
The United States of America is the closest thing to Paradise on our planet today! And sports is one of our favorite passtimes in which we express our emotions without doing physical harm to another.
Have fun but be safe.

I conquer!!!!
I've been saying the same thing for years. Sports seem to take priority above education, national affairs & economy.
I hate that some Americans can be that dumb.

For some people, especially men, it's a testosterone thing. They get so wrapped up in what they are into. It's like an obsession!

"oh my god! are vince and jen engaged! ahhh!"
I dont know what to do about it.
Maybe its becuase becuase people dont want to think about all the bad stuff happening- they just want to escape into pretty colors.
