Forgive me for presenting my argument without much support, but I feel legalizing marijuanna (sp?) would help the government and the country in so many different ways:
1.) It's clinically PROVEN to be less harmfull then cigarettes, and not even as addicting, people who smoke it all the time, aren't addicted, they just have nothing better to do.
2.)If the government controlled and grew the herb, they could make a fortune off taxes.
3.)Clearing marijuanna would allow authorities to focus more on the real dangerous, and more traffiiced drugs such as heroin and cocaine.
4.) It could easily be monitored with programs similar to the legal alcohol limit, and making it readily availible would control how much people use, and partially eliminate the allure of it.
And for the record, I've personally NEVER touched the stuff, but I see nothing wrong with it.
Anyway, anyone have other points? Or do you disagree totally? I'm open to all thoughts.

Did you not read what I said? There is absolutely NO evidence supporting that marijuanna could kill you. At the most, you can cough. There are some people out there who smoke marijuanna for medicinal reasons, because it helps keep them alive. Now I can agree and see how it could present a poor lack of judgement, but no one, in the history of medicine has ever been recorded as dying as a direct result of mairjunna. And if we had govt. programs regulating use, we could prevent accidents misjudgements associated with it's use.

omg... you cannot "trip" over weed. I've seen people smoke for hours straight and it does nothing but make you giggle. Please people do not argue somehting you don't understand, I'm looking for intelligent answers. And all you say that weed is dangerous, and one said that it can deteriorate your brain, but how do you know this? What evidence is there?
I appreciate both sides of the argument, but so far there as been only one person to decently propose the con side. Merely stating something doesnt prove you are right.
sheesh.

Really SENSIBLE people know legalizing drugs that are now illegal will not solve any problems, but only worsen them.
You are incorrect in stating marijuana is not addictive. It most certainly is. It also has adverse effects on the brain. Smoking tobacco may be dangerous, but it does not affect the brain in a way similar to alcohol and other drugs.
It is a 100% fantasy to say weed can be controlled like alcohol. Alcohol is not nearly as controlled as it should be.
Additionally, have you researched lately the number of people killed by drunk drivers within just THIS year? Now you want to complicate that problem with ANOTHER mind-altering drug and let people drive under the influence of weed?
Okay, so where do we go from here? Cocaine? Hey, let's legalize cocaine. How about crack? Heroin? Come on, now, let's not discriminate. Let's legalize them all and watch as this country destroys itself in ONE generation.
This country is rotting from within, just as the Roman empire did. The world doesn't need to invade us and kick our asses. All they have to do is watch ourselves destroy ourselves and this country, then they can just take over.
Wait. There's more. Let's legalize prostitution. How about rape? Child molestation? Murder?
Are you getting the point here? There MUST be some control, yes. Where do you draw the line? Where do you take a stand and say, "We cannot allow these horrible things to continue. We must tell the whiners and cry babies, the drug addicts, the murderers, the rapists, the child molestors and others -- YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DO THESE THINGS! We are a civilized society and and we will not stand by and let you destroy the greatest nation in the history of mankind."
There has to be a limit SOMEPLACE, SOMEWHERE. If you legalize one thing then others will press to legalize other things.
WHERE WILL YOU DRAW THE LINE?
HUH? WHERE? Where will you take a stand? NEVER?

I agree with you completely. Also, as to your first point, there is no way you can physically get addicted to weed. My Dad was a hippie, long hair, toking and all. AND IF it were addictive, he would STILL be smoking it. You do not go through withdrawals without it. Also, you can get drunk and wake up wondering where you are, what you did, and where in the world your clothes are. With weed, you know exactly what you did and where and when and with whom. It just mellows you out, kinda makes you happy. However, you DO know what you're doing while your high from it. You can't always say that of alcohol, yet, it is perfectly legal.

The courts make too much money from fines for one thing. I personally think alcahol should be illegal. And pot should be legalized! I would alot rather meet someone high on pot on the road than someone that is drunk!! If it were voted on by all americans on the ballot at election time, Marijuana would no doubt be legalized by a landslide!! Alcahol Is a far more dangerous drug than pot. Thats a proven fact!!!!

I agree with most of your suggestions. Too much time, money, and manpower is spent tracking down a field of marijuana, arresting growers, sellers, and users, and dragging them through the legal system. Meanwhile much more dangerous drugs are being hauled into our country every day. People continue to die at the hands of drunk drivers. Gangs run rampant in our cities and kill indescriminately while we're wasting time looking in ashtrays and pockets for a joint. Children are dying at the hands of pedophiles while not nearly enough is being done to stop it. Marijuana is not one of the big problems it's made out to be. If someone wants to waste their brain cells, it doesn't match the severity of the really big issues.

Of course marijuana should be legal. In fact, the government has no business sticking it's nose into our private lives, or regulating any substance we freely choose to put into our bodies. However, the government doesn't care about your rights, or your health and safety--that's the load they feed the brainwashed sheep into thinking that anti-drug laws are for our benefit, that they "care" about us. Not true. Where do you think these drugs come from? The CIA ships them in! Now unclassified documents from the 50's show that our own government developed and imported many of these dangerous drugs not only to hook the minority population on them, but also to cause them serious health reprocussions. Later, they decided that they could pull a double whammy and lock the majority of them up for "breaking the law" by taking the drugs that the government itself sought so desperately to give them. The government makes far more money from covert deals with drug kingpins and the fines associated with illegal drug use than they ever could by taxing it.

Some people think that all drugs should be legalized, taking the enormous profit incentive away and thereby eliminating drug-related crime. The Dutch have very progressive drug policies that seem to work well for their citizens; marijuana has been legal in Holland for years.

We've already got enough stupid people driving around buzzed and causing problems, and then combine that with the alcohol they drink while they're buzzed, b/c the two usually go hand in hand.

Yes your right, and even besides that, it shouldn't be nationally illegal, it should be up to the states... Because the constiution says anythign not mentioned in it was the delegation of the states, there's nothing about weed in the constitution...

Absolutely not. This will result in millions of people becoming senile by the age of 45 and then they will want my tax dollars to support them for the rest of their worthless lives. Get a clue, people!
