It is a stereotype that all black people love chicken. They actually don't, I have a lot of family who hate it.
But...
Chicken has became a part of our soul food culture. In the days of slavery when black people were not given enough to eat they sometimes stole chickens and pretended like animals had got them in the night. Chickens are small and easy to secretly raise because they were hard to keep track on plantation with all the other chickens, plus the chickens would provide eggs also. The meat was needed to feed each other because slaves were mostly given scraps to eat. That's why our soulfood consist of basically scrap parts and things that grow in sand and not the best soil like pig feet, chitterlings, hog head meat, pig ears, greens, sweet potatoes, yams, etc.

Have you ever had Southern fried chicken prepared by Black people?
Your question would be moot.
KFC is an offshoot, not the original.
Don't ever visit a Black's home while they are frying chicken. Drive your senses crazy.

I have no clue...way, way, way back 'cause I heard that stuff as a kid. Don't forget watermelon, sweet potatoes, greens, chitlins...The blacks in my family have different tradtional foods for the Holidays than the white family so we combine them both...

Chicken rules...no matter who eats it.
I guess in the olden days in the south , it was a cheap staple in the slave camps......could be that it originated there.
