Fools! None of these choices (with the exception of Jeff Buckley & Pav.) come close to Roy Orbison when it comes to singing ability. None! Best Song is a personal though, for me it's Mystery Girl. Ella fitzgerald was a great singer too.

Pavarotti does a mean 'nessun dorma'
Aretha Franklin's pretty good at singing too
i prefer the Sex Pistols, though i don't think Johnny Rotten is technically the best singer ever.

Why do you assume the best singer ever is a man? Kind of narrow minded don't you think?

I would have said that Old Blue Eyes himself was the best singer to date, and his everlastin classic My Way would be his best song (although i dont think you should have limited the answers to only males?)

Technically, I guess Jeff Buckley had one of the most amazing voices (three octaves, I think - check out Wikipedia). If you haven't heard his album "Grace" then you should. His version of Leonard Cohen's "Halleluja" is widely aknowledged as a classic. And that's by people who know about this kind of thing... and the reason he's not still recording? He died. I think he was about 26.
