My bf (English) and I (Taiwanese) are getting engaged in the UK. I am currently on a student visa. After we get engaged, do I have to apply for a different type of visa? If so, to which Home Office (in the UK or in Taiwan) should I apply for the visa? We have checked UK home office website, but cannot find relevant info.
I'd appreciate if someone can help. Thanks a lot!

yes you will, you'll have to re-enter the country (U.K. ) on a fiances visa. You apply to the british home office....your country's home office has no barrings in the u.k. and can't issue visa's to reside here. Do all this before leaving this country. and just because you are engaged to a brit, doesn't mean you will get the right to live here. many people assume that just because they are going to marry a brit, or american, or canadian, for that matter, they get the right to reside in these countries. not true.
good luck

Being engaged makes no difference to your status. It does not change any entitlement to be in UK. Even if you got married here, you could not change your visa. You'd have to leave UK and then get entry clearance to return as spouse of a UK citizen.

from wat i kno you can get permanant residency in the UK when you get married and after 3 years you can apply to be a British citizen. i dont think ur status changes wen u jus get engaged u ahve to be married. Try the Taiwanese embassy and ask them for more details. hope all works out

It is better you apply in the both so as to ensure yourself. If you don't need to apply in either of the two, they will tell you...just give it a try...
