If all political parties, not just the Democrats and Republicans, were viable and had a chance of winning during an election, and you didn't have to worry about "throwing your vote away", who would you vote for?

And why would you vote for them?

I would say the Green Party. They support liberty in many areas that are important to me. But they are not as heartless as Libertarians who tend to sacrifice the good of society as a whole in the false light of what they claim to be individual freedoms.

I like some if the ideas of the Libertarian Party, don't get me wrong. Many of them are quite noble. But a world ran by libertarians would be so cut-throat and hearless that it wouldn't benift the majority of citizens. It would benifit a small minority... which really isn't that different from a right-wing non evangelical Republican ran government would do anyway. And at least the Republicans would have a little bit more heart for people.

Plus, the Greens actually care some little thing called the environment. Lazze-Faire regulation of environmental issues never works. Taking away regulation and giving business the option to either invest in polution controls or put that money toward their quarterly stock dividens or the CEO's Xmas bonus... I think we all know that at least 9 times out of 10 that money would not be spent to clean up the environment. Part of that money would probably be spend finding some crackpot scientific study that says that polution is actually good for you, the rest would go into payments for the companies new vacation yaught... and if the libertarians had their way, that new yaught probably wouldn't have any polution controls on its exaust either.

Course, taking the freedoms of the libertarians and the intelligence and heart of the Greens and combining those into a party... that would be something to see.

Libertarian.

I agree with all of their goals, and about 95% of how they plan to get there.

Small government, minimal taxes, minimal social programs, personal responsibility and accountability to go along with maximum personal liberties. No govt regulation of private lives or businesses.
