I know many gay men that are masculine, as well as feminine gay men. The feminine ones I know aren't looking for attention, and yeah some of them are drama queens, but most of them, that's just the way they are. Why do so many people make a big deal about guys like that? I'm a boyish-acting lesbian, if you want to put a label on me.

Some people can't get beyond stereotypes and labels others put in their heads. They miss out on the interesting stuff in life, learning and growing and experiencing a very rich world in so many ways beyond sexuality issues. So sad.

I'm in full agreeance with swot.

The "big deal" is because a few decades ago, men were expected to be....well.... masculine. You know "men never cry" etc. so gay men who wave their arms about and who are what some might describe as melodramatic... it goes against the old idea of how a true man should be. The old way of thinking but certainly not mine.

Peace out!

Humans in general are close minded creatures. I think they think anybody different from the norm is less than them, and therefore must be ridiculed. I'm straight, but labels really do suck. People make a big deal about it because it's different and people don't like change. They think it's funny.

Thank you for your question!
I am tired of the gay/lesbian bashing questions.
I am neither, but it upsets me when people
think they can be rude or downright mean
to others just because they have a different
outlook on life.
All the answer are great - it only matters what is in
your heart and how you treat people.
God Bless!

People hate them because they are misogynistic. Things associated with women make their skin crawl. The most vocal deriders of effeminate men are gay men, ones that straight people might consider feminine themselves. We live in a society where it's no longer socially acceptable to be prejudiced against any race or ethnicity, but you can still make jokes about women in mixed company and no one seems to care.

people are afraid of what's different, often. i happen to like feminine gay men AND boyish lesbians (especially hot boyish lesbians!)... pluralism rocks.

People in the US have wierd ideas of what men are supposed to act like...and, in fact, people in the US have a lot of wierd ideas, period. You do not find much of this in Europe or Asia...everyone is allowed to be themselves. WE got caught up in the Hollywood stereotype...unfair to both men and women. Good luck
