If you want to try the local food, there is a golden rule: forget your tour guides and look into the restaurants. If the local people are eating there, then the chances are the food is authentic and good.
If you're not prepared to take the risk, then try a Chinese or Indian restaurant. Take my advice - avoid the all-day English breakfast.

My companion and I LOVE this restaurant - and you get a free bottle of wine! Can't beat that!
The restaurant's regular gourmet menu includes wood-fired barbeque, exotic meats, fresh fish and a duck liver pate to die for. The wine list is extensive, though we opted to try the house wine to accompany our Moroccan meal and it was most acceptable.

Tambo - This seafood restaurant overlooking the sea, with its great food and lovely sea views is a must for every tourist. Once you've tried it, you'll keep comming back for more. The grilled black sole is highly recommended. The service is good and the prices very affordable.
