my 7 month old daughter fell and hit her head. How can I tell if she's ok?

our bed is a little less than 2 feet of the wooden floor of our room. she cired right after but now she seems fine. her motor skills are ok, she responds when we speak to her, and she was back to her playful self, but my wife and I can't shake the guilt and worry :-(

yes, this is the first time she fell.

She's fine, get a throw rug and move the nightstands if they have hard corners on them so she doesn't crack her head on them next time she rolls off. I would also get a really good 'what to do' first aid type chart printed out for future reference. Tape it on the inside of the kitchen cabinet near your kitchen phone with your emergency numbers like her doctor, and poison control. That way when this stuff happens you don't have to get on the computer or hunt around for a book to see what to do.. if your local park district or a American red cross holds them take a class in PBLS. It will give you confidence and really either mom or dad should know the 1st aid basics cause then when she jams foil up her nose or eats soap or sticks a tiny seashell into her ear you will not panic..

It was the first, and I'm willing to bet it won't be the last. :) Accidents happen, so don't walk around feeling guilty. It's impossible to think you can follow your kids around 24/7 with an eagle eye on them, you know?

Signs to look for: unevenly sized pupils that don't react to bright light, lethargy, vomiting, or anything else that's "unusual" for her behavior. Any or all of these things could indicate a concussion.

She'll live. I fell off my bike at age 8 and had bleeding from my head but was ok. As long as she isn't displaying any motor/cognitive deficiencies, I wouldn't worry about it. If you feel so bad, take her out for ice cream or something later in the day.

As long as she didn't lose consciousness or have pupils that do not match (aren't the same size as each other) or throw up, she should be fine. Try not to worry. And don't feel too guilty about it, these things happen.

She will be fine. One month after my daughter turned one, she fell off the bed. She hit her head on the dresser and started bleeding everywhere. She ended up getting stitches. I COMPETELY understand the guilt. Just make sure she doesn't start acting different and never let her go to sleep after she hits her head.

She should be fine as long as she is showing no unusual behavior, keep your eye on her for the rest of the day even tomorrow, but I'm sure she is fine. If you really don't know then call a doctor.

She sounds fine but go on and check her pupils. Look directly at her and see if one pupil (black area in the middle of the eye) is larger than the other. If it is have your wife check and see what she thinks. If you both see a disparity then it's time to go to the ER. From what you've described, she's uninjured. Kids are pretty durable.

My son pushed my daughter out of her high chair when she was little. She hit her head on the stop of the wooden high chair and on the slab kitchen floor. i called the doctor and they told me everything you see in the movies and etc. is all myths. He told me after she is done crying she is going to want to sleep let her and just check her ever so often. If everything is normal when sh wakes up let her be. She also won't let you but ice on a bump if she gets one.... just let it be and it will go down on its own!
