Pedophiles are criminals.By violating societies norms and laws and regulations they have given up their rights, one of which is to vote. Please don't even consider pedophiles as a minority issue and there for the rights of pedophiles....Its a crime against children...they should not in anyway be allowed to do so.

Your question could be understood as whether we should allow pedophiles that have served their sentence to vote.To this my anwer is ofcourse cause u can not have double jeoprady, that person has paid for his crimes once and should not loose voting rights for the rest of his life.Pedopiles need then as one poster pointed out to be rehabilitated.I know that it is a major problem in Cape town and they have centres for rehabilitating pedophiles once they have served their sentences. The other aspect is should pedophiles serving their sentences be allowed to vote. This is part of a broader and very controvertial debate as to whether prisoners should be allowed to vote or not.I know that there was a case in south africa where the court allowed convicted prisoners to vote.
With regard to whether the issue of protecting pedophiles is an issue of minority protection, i am and current trend is against such a protection. This is because it is not a minority issue like race, gender or sexual orientation. The difference being that discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, race and gender targets people by the mere fact of what they are...pedophilia involves actions other than the person who is a pedophile and targets children who are the most vulnerable. It adversly affects them and is thus a crime. They may not have control over it, they may be a minority, but it still remains a crime.

Felons in most states are not allowed to vote. Child molestation is a felony in most states. What part of that equation isn't obvious?

Unless you're talking about priests who have never actually committed child molestation, and just have fantasies. Which is the psychological definition of pedophilia. In which case, the law can't punish people for what they were thinking, if they've never committed a crime.

And where in the news article you linked does it say anything about Bush getting involved in what's primarily a state law issue?

{EDIT to battle-ax} What possibly difference could it make what gender they are? Voting rights are not gender-dependent.

Once again the news is twisted to fit your feeble ideas. If a felony conviction does not stop one from voting then why pick out one group (like Drug pushers) and say they can vote and stop the nut case pedophiles. Bush does not make the laws. Put the blame where it is due. Felons either vote or do not vote. It is that simple.

If the state law allows convicted pedophiles (i.e. felons) to vote, then by all means pedophile priests should be allowed to vote.

And I'm a yellow dog Democrat and just about as progressively liberal as I can imagine.

you're the one with the radical right view on this one....sorry.

do pedophiles deserve to be punished? yes.
should we try to rehaibilitate them? yes
should pedohiles vote? yes.

-> democracy means we put up with people we would rather do without -> anything else and you can find yourself living in a totalitarian state where the leader can wake up one day and decide to cleanse out a particular element in society and that might include colour, sexual orientation, the physically challenged...the list goes on.

Should transvestites be allowed to vote? Are they male or Female?

{edit to corygriph} It doesn't, but the asker is making a stupid question out of sex and his/her obvious hatred toward the catholic church, most probably due to being a transvestite read it's( I mean the askers) 360 page

Yes they shoud, every minority group has the right to representation. Would it be fair to ban Druids, or Dwarfs because they are different? Where is your sense of fair play?
