If you look at your parents do you think it is obvious in every way that you are their kid? If not how could it be obvious that a particular set of human remains could be the ancestors of another particular set? Even modern life doesn't have smooth links so the idea of "missing links" in the past went out a long time ago.

Because there are literally millions of missing links. Evolution takes place in small stages, not major ones, though we have seen an evolutionary change take place less than 100 years ago. Do you know what it was?
