who was your favorite character and why?

Ok, I am speaking of the characters as they were in the books, here. My favorite character was Samwise Gamgee. He was simple on the surface, but had a fierce sense of loyalty. I found that I was actually inspired by his simplcity, his optimism, his loyalty, and his tenacity all the way to the very end. The inspirational part being that, even when all hope seemed lost, he hoisted Frodo up onto his shoulders, and carried him the rest of the way.

that is a hard one to answer. I have the ring trilogy 4 times in my life and watched the movies twice. The characters in the movie were , for the most part, true to the characters in the book. My favorite character to watch in the movies is Gollum. The reasons;----The film character is computer generated. But, a human actor did all the acting including all the movements that the computer captured to create the character. Gollum, in the movies, was just what my mind envisioned when I read the books. Sometimes a favorite character is a favorite, not because of looks, or that he a hero, but because of a fantastic job of acting. Thus, my choice.

Samwise Gamgee:
Although the story centered on Frodo's quest, it was Sam who kept Frodo going. He saved Frodo time after time. And even though the ring was Frodo's burden, Middle Earth would be under Sauron's rule had it not been for Sam.

In the movie Legolas because he was so cute and an elve. Elves are so cute!
In the book I liked Tom Bombadil! He was funny!
