The President of the Senate is the Vice President of the United States (Currently: Dick Cheney). The President of the Senate has three main responsibilities:
1. To interpret and enforce the Senate rules whenever questions of procedure are raised.
2. To recognize speakers on the Senate floor and ensure nobody goes longer than his or her time.
3. To cast tiebreaking votes in the Senate whenever the Senate is evenly split.

The Vice President is the President of the Senate. He provides the tiebreaking 101st vote in the senate if the Senate is tied 50-50. He also presides over the Senate when it does things like tallies the Electoral College votes. The day-to-day head of the Senate is the President Pro Tempore, who is the most senior senator of the majority party. I believe that's Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska right now.

Que mal informado estas de mexico. Mexico no es izquierdista. Mexico es una Republica constitucional federativa y representativa con division de poderes (Ejecutivo, Legislativo, Y Judical), dos camaras (senadores y diputados) y una suprema corte. La Federacion la componen 32 estados soberanos.Su actual Presidente Vicente Fox fue elegido democraticamene en Julio 2000 y actualmene ocupa el cargo que debera entregar el 1 de diciembre de este año. El conflicto electoral actual en Mexico, es precisamente por que el candidato opositor Lopez Obrador (de izquierda y coludido con castro, Chavez y Morales) alega fraude en la eleccion que perdio. la mayoria de los Mexicanos no lo queremos pero el continua interrumpiendo el orden publico y desacreditando a las instituciones. El perdio, precisamente por que la mayoria de los mexicanos no queremos un gobierno de Izquierda. Ahora, llamar a Mexico comunista es una abslouta burrada que hasta me permito ignorar.
Fox es del PAN, un partido de derecha pura. Si seras ignorante hermano, no emitas opiniones sin conocer primero.
