Why are there so many 'celebrites'?

Are we all obsessed with 'celebrities' now?Are our own lives so devoid of excitment that we can't actually be ourselves anymore,and have to look to people on the screen as role models?Whats become of being OURSELVES??!!
Look at Victoria Beckham,a woman who admits to never reading a book in her life.Unyet,so many young girls want to emulate her,or even BE her.Shes talentless,but she married a famous footballer,so I suppose to some that makes her a legitimate persona to emulate.
I fear for this world and our future generations if we have all started down that hollow path of following that plastic and fake lifestyle.

you're right, there are a lot, and it seems like they're taking over the world. we're talking about america, here. most of the people of our country are being hypnotized by the media or something. just ignore it, and maybe someday people will realize what they're missing out on because they're so caught up with hollywood. we cant control them, though

I admit, we do take time to read/watch TV about celebrities. I don't think I have ever sat down and said....wow, I wish I looked like Jessica Simpson or any other star. If we had half the money as these celebrities, we can look as good or even better than them! But, it is important to be happy with yourself!
