The color pigment is deep enough it takes a life time for it to go away, if, it a good tattoo to start. But, they will fade. I have known older people who got tattoos when around 18 and when they were 40-50 they had it re-inked to make it look good again. Those that did nothing, there tattoos were hard to distinguish what it was.

They may remain but they do change. Color fades, words run together, it's ugly!
