I understand that the baldness gene is passed through the mother. So...I'm not bald (of course)...my father isn't bald, but one of his brothers is. My mother's brothers and father are bald. Are my boys safe because my father isn't bald? I'm just not sure how this works. Can anyone enlighten me?

Well the bald gene is passed through the females. The fact that your father is not bald really isn't much of a factor. I would look at your mom's side of the family because you got the trait from her. I'd say it is a pretty good chance your boys will go bald. That is my opinion but genetics are not always set in stone.

I never heard that baldness was passed by the gene of the mother... My father's side was all bald and my siblings are bald. I am the ONLY one who is not.. BUT I have been taking a Viltamin B formula for hair a long time and that might have helped.

I would say that the chances of your boys being bald are G O O D.. But do not tell them

It's likely that one son may start balding in his late teens. See, baldness is USUALLY caused by the mother's father. But there are acceptions...such as a son going bald because of a father or a great uncle. I see many cases where out of 3 sons with balding on either side of the family all have hair except for one.

Baldness can also be caused by extremely high testosterone levels.

Ive seen families that have it usually pass it on to most of the males.and the ones that didnt go completely bald have receeding hairlines that cause them to shave their hair off because there so bad.All I can say is teach them to be funny and nice people and it wont matter if they got hair.theyll always have friends

I don't know if there's much way to tell. One possible indicator is the time at which they enter puberty; the earlier they do so, the more likely they are to have lots of testosterone, which is linked to baldness.

Yup. Yul Brenner, here they come.... though there isn't anything wrong with it. Start shaving their heads now so they get used to it, and no one will ever know that isn't the natural state.
