I am looking for links, tutorials, and or books that are for the very beginner and cover the basics. I use photoshop and am trying to create some trifold pamphlets. My main questions are about the use of color palettes, font combinations and over all layout. I want my pamphlets to look professional and eye catching.
Thanks

Hey there,
When doing things like pamphlets and working with text it is much better and easier to use a program called Illustrator... If you cant afford it you can download a trial version which is yours for 30 days from the Adobe website.
From there you can use tutorials and the help menu is excellent in aiding you with whatever you need to do.

The reason photoshop isnt ideal when working with text is because it was built to do what the name says, for Photos.
When using text it tends to generally distort and look in poor quality. Illustrator is perfect and has excellent results!
All the best :)

For books, go to a college bookstore. For making pamphlets, you will need a publishing software program, like Publisher or InDesign. Basic info - keep it simple, use a maximum of two type families - one serif and the other sans-serif. Use bulleted paragraphs and don't get too wordy. White space is good. Don't clutter it with silly clipart. Look on-line (PaperDirect is wonderful--call 1-800-a-papers for a sample paperkit), or Staples for pre-designed tri-fold sheets.
