im getting married next month and my fiancee is takeing on my name after her sir name ie jones[hers] smith[mine] and i was wondering can men do the same so that we would be mr and mrs jones smith for exampel ??

thanks to all thathave awnsered so far looks like i can do what i like and i am glad about this because i think it will show her how much i have respect for our eqality in this relationship

I got married recently, and my husband wondered about that (although he never actually wanted to do it). I do not remeber there being a space on the marriage license for the man to put his new name. I do know though, that you can legally change your name (if you are a citizen) if that is your desire, regardless of marriage. Good luck to you. Have a blessed and happy marriage!

Yes, you are free to hyphenate your name to match that of your new mate. You are even free to take her name and drop your own last name. Getting married is an opportunity to legally change your last name. However, you are not free, legally, to "call yourself anything you like." Any other kind of name change will require a formal court petition.

Yeah, you can have it changed to whatever you want. Look at Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan, that's not the names they were born with. Same idea.
