I have lived in China for five years. The wise tale of them eating dogs derived from World War II when the Japanese caused millons of them to starve to death. Now that their lives is better, many have pet dogs.
There are some of the darker skin Chinese who eat some dog meat as a religious thing. My wife and her family have never eaten dogs.
I will remind you that some of the soldiers during the Civil War ate dogs, cats, and other animals to stay alive. If I was starving, I would eat dog meat. God would never forgive me for not trying to stay alive. So, do you think they needed to keep from starving during World War II?

it's a national/traditional meal of Korean as I know, and it's a meal which is widely known in Asia. I don't want to use the word "popular", should be "normal" instead. It's normal because it's acceptable in Asia but it's not popular because it's actually not an everyday meal in each Asian family, it's just for some occasions like when men hang out with each other at weekends, drinking, and eat dogs meat.
I don't know why, but not all Asian eat dogs, it depends on the religion which they follow or depends on their heart :) or something else ...

Yes, it's true. But as the world gets more and more modern, I think it's something that's slowly going to go away, but not completely.

Please take a look at the dogaid website. A minority of the population do consume dog and cat meat but it isn't as widespread as it used to be.
Peace out!
