I am working on an assignment on biodiversity, need help!?

Question

I need to focus on the importance of biodiversity, including wildlife and aquatic life.

I have to address the issues of wildlife extinction due to deforestation and preserving aquatic life. I need help in selecting an area/region of focus where both the issues are present.

I greatly appreciate any help and possible web links you guys can give me. Much thanks.

One other thing, this is a college level assignment.

There is an interesting article in the August 2006 issue of Scientific American by Gende and Quinn that looks at the inter-relationship between bears, salmon and the forest surrounding the streams where they spawn. The article deals with bears that feed on berries as well. This magazine does a good job at bibliography of articles, and there are several papers listed you could further research.

There are findings there is deforestation occuring due to extinction of wildlife in streams due to dams and other impediments to migritory aquatic life. This may not exactly conform to your assignment, but you could certainly mold it to that bent.
