My husband has been looking for a project management job in the Chicago Metro area and seems to only getting inquiries from headhunters that ask for his resume and then he never hears from them again. If he follows up on the contact they get nasty and say they will contact him if he is qualified. His resume looks great and he is qualified for the positions he applies for.

Does anyone think they have any jobs to offer? Does anyone else blame this on Blago? We do. I am just curious of what other peoples experience with this is.

The biggest reason I had to leave Chicago for the East Coast was because, once I was laid off, it took a job opportunity from out of state to keep me working in my chosen field.

My field is pretty specialized (systems requirements engineering), so very few, if any, employers in the Chicago area were looking for my skills. Project mgmt shouldn't be one of them, but I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a long while to get a bite.

Besides, unless he know someone on the inside of those companies he's applying for, a lot of those postings tend to be EEOC driven, in order to ensure that the jobs are openly posted before it ends up in the hands of an insider.

Blago may at times be a dope, but the employment situation isn't one of them I'd blame it on. I was laid off during George Ryan's time, so this thing has been happening a while.
