That argument is not a valid scientific argument because it can be applied to virtually any species that still exists today.
One might also ask:
If primates evolved from earlier primates then why are still any primates at all. That question is of the same essence. Anything can be substituted for 'primates' without altering the validity of the argument. The argument is still scientifically invalid, null and void.
People who think that Darwin maintained that humans evolved from monkeys or chimpanzees clearly have no understanding of evolution and are the least qualified people to argue the point intelligently. Obviously they never read the original work or they just plain do not understand it. They seem to still be living in the 19th century.
Even more important is the fact that the evolution theory of today is not the same evolution theory of Darwin's day. It has undergone drastic revisions since then to correct numerous flaws discovered by research and paleontology.
That's what science does. It always ultimately corrects itself, admits its errors and progresses. Asinine beliefs, stubbornly contrary to scientific knowledge, do not.
Darwin's main point was that humans and chimpanzees and some other close species probably had a common ancestor at the base of our branch of the evolutionary family tree. That 'chimp' is indeed extinct. However, several different species diverged from this limb of the tree, chimpanzees and humans included - that's why there are still chimps - they are a separate entity entirely independent of the human branch. Even if chimps never existed at all, humans could still have evolved into existence and vice versa.
Notice that I said 'probably'. The sun is 'probably' a star too, but the evidence in support of that theory advances that probability to a high level of certainty. A similar argument applies to the theory of evolution as more discoveries and observations accumulate in support of it.
Scientific evidence continues to mount in favour of evolution while those who oppose it have never come forward with a single new scientific fact in more than a century in support of their contention to the contrary. They simply attack modern science, insisting it is wrong while giving no scientifically verifiable or rational evidence to support that position and contributing nothing of any worth to the body of scientific knowledge.

First, we did not evolve from chimps....rather, we share a common ancestor.
Second, it's a matter of survivability. Chimps are able to survive in the habitats they're found in (the jungles of Central and West Africa).
Chimps are actually 4 to 7 times stronger than the average human(there are documented attacks), and the average lifespan is 40 years in the wild (although they can live to 60...in fact Cheetah the chimp from Tarzan is still kicking at the age of 74!).
However, the chimp is on the endangered list, due to human activities such as destruction of habitat, poaching, and disease.

I am not sure if humans evolved from chimps. We may have diverged from some point in time with the chimp line continuing on and the human line going in another direction. There may have been some sort of common organism from which both diverged. Darwin's work in Species, never indicated that humans came from monkeys. That was the idea created and perpetuated by the media of the time and since, used for political and religious means.

Well, because we did not evolve FROM chimps. We share a common ancestor with chimps and other great apes. But a few million years ago one of ours decided it would be a great idea to use his thumbs for grasping instead holding things the way chimps do today. From that simple manoever all kinds of fascinating things began to happen. Combine that with the smart individual who realized if he or she stood upright he could see if predators were coming his way. And slowly the brain began to grow and new thoughts and problem solving skills began to develop and lo and behold a homo sapien came along. There have of course been exceptions to the larger brain rule, and these individuals sometimes become US presidents. These smaller brained retros are call republicans. We have to be careful of them because they tend to start wars they can't win and they just don't seem to be able to manage money, especially other peoples money. End of lesson.

We did NOT evolve from chimps, we evolved from the same ancestor that chimps also have. Todays chimps are more evolved that that common ancestor. Chimps are smarter, and bigger than that prehistoric ape was.
Chimps evolved to live better in trees, while humans evolved to live better on the ground.

Because ... as your post clearly illustrates ... some chimps steadfastly *refuse* to advance.
A long time ago, one tree-bound primate named Charles ABC. said to his buddies "Hey there are some cool berries on the ground bushes, and I'm gonna go get 'em."
Some thought that this made considerable sense. So they climbed down and found a *lot* of berries to support the theory.
But others said "No way! Only athiests and blasphemers go down there. There are absolutely NO berries there. We prefer to stay up in the trees where it's safer."
And it didn't matter how many times the troop on the ground held up berries and said "Look, there's lots of 'em all over the place." The other troop just turned away and said "We can't see ANY berries. There are NONE whatsoever."
So the two troops went their separate ways ... one evolving the ability to make fire, and wheels, and waistcoats, and ocean-going ships ... the other staying in the trees evolving into what we now call chimps, smugly imagining what happened to those athiests and blasphemers.
Eventually, one of the humans (Charles D.) looked up from his ocean-going ship and said "Hey, I figured out a single mechanism that explains how every species on earth evolved from earlier forms!"
Some thought that this made considerable sense. And they climbed down and found a *lot* of evidence to support the theory.
But some said. "No way! We don't see ANY evidence at all. NONE whatsoever. Only athiests and blasphemers would say that we evolved from chimps."
And Charles D. said, "No. I didn't say we evolved from chimps! I said that humans and chimps evolved from the same ancestor."
And they said. "Why do you keep saying that we evolved from chimps??"
And Charles D. said, "No! Really! I specifically said we did NOT evolve from chimps!"
And they said (smugly), "If we evolved from chimps, why are there still some chimps around?"
And Charles D. said, "Whatev'."
And Charles D. and his troop went on to build medicine, and cure diseases, and figure out all sorts of other things about how life and matter works, and discovered electricity, and how to make computers and X-boxes, and discover how stars and planets are made, and eventually how to build a space ship to take them off the planet where the other troop of humans still lived
And the remaining troop who did not follow Charles D. and his brethren out of the dark trees were left wondering what happened to those athiests and blasphemers.
And one said to the other: "Man, you really *stumped* 'em with that question about the chimps!"

We haven't evolved from chimps. Chimps are more like biological siblings or cousins.

if it is not a kidding Question Read The Following Statement:
in the course of evolution some gens become changes and this changes lead to a new species and it doesnot means all of the last organism most follow a single mutation!you have to this in this case in a society levels,so why some people get cancerous and the other not!however i dont Conform the evolution of the human in this way! First off, we share a common ancestor, we are not evolved from chimps.
Secondly, why would you expect every organism from the same species to evolve identically and all at once?
Your question is similar to saying, "people in Africa are black, why are there still white people about?"

Great question! I bet all of the evolutionists haven't figured that one out yet :-)
Or maybe modern chimps are just the retarded chimps? They weren't smart enough to graduate to human school, so they are stuck in special chimp ed?
