DVD-rip as it is actually put means when someone has copied a DVD from a DVD Disk onto their computer using a 'rip' program similar to the part of the MSN Music Player that lets you 'rip' m,usic from a CD. That person can then record the movie onto a blank DVD disk and sell the move on at a very low price which makes it attractive to people who are looking for low price movies and it makes the perpetrator money. A lot of people sell those "illegal DVDs" on eBay by adding them to the listing as "Genuine DVDs" but this is actually "Piracy" and is illegal by copy-write in all countries through out the world so if your are caught doing this you can be prosecuted and charged with piracy and if you are caught will them in your possession you can be charged with the possession of illegal goods both of which carries the penalty of either a fine or imprisonment or both so it is best to stay away from piracy. However, you are allowed to 'rip' a DVD so long as it states on the cover that content may be ripped - this is the case with some DVD-ROMs but you are still not allowed to reproduce any part of the media for sale or any other use then personal use as this is piracy and carries the penalties listed above
