I am not asking which is the fastest, I am looking for a general consensus based on sex appeal, greatest influence on the genre, etc.

Give me your honest opinion.

I am an old school Gearhead I can NOT possibly pick just one
I LOVE ALL MUSCLE CARS!
How about I'll pick one favorite from each maker...it is the ONLY way I can do this!

From Ford... My pick is Mustang Fast back from 69-71
Hubby's pick is the 68-69 Mercury Cougar

From Chevy ...Both our picks are the Chevelle SS 454 4speed tranny.
(However the COPO Camaro with the all aluminum BIG BLOCK & 4 SPEED tranny is Sick!!)

From Pontiac... My pick is the 67 or 68 Firebird Hard Top Only. with a 455 & 4speed tranny.
My hubby is early 70's Formula Firebird with a 455 & 4speed tranny

Plymoth/Dodge... WOW got alot to think about....
My pick would have to be the 69 Dodge Charger R/T.. Blue w/Black stripe 426 Hemi w/4 speed tranny.
Hubbys pick 70 Plymoth Roadrunner. w/440 6pk..4speed tranny!

Olds.. My pick would be the old 442.
Hubbys pick would be the Cutlass

Buick.. My pick would be the the Regal/Grand National.
Hubbys would have to be the Skylark.(similar to a Chevelle)

I can narrow it down to 2 cars for me.. the 67-68 Pontiac Firebird or the 69 Dodge Charger R/T.
Hubbys 2 favorites are the... early 70's Formula Firebird & the 70 Plymoth Roadrunner.

Sorry we couldn't narrow it down to JUST ONE... :(
God Bless

Hmm, what to choose...

The 1970 Pontiac GTO "The Judge" model, with the optional 455 cu/in V8 engine; nearly the perfect definition of "muscle car?"

...or the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454?

So many great cars, but I think my vote would have to go to the 1964 Shelby Cobra 427. Huge engine and TONS of pure style, and Shelby is still a legend in automotive design today. Gorgeous car!

The '68 mustang with a 390, '73 Dodge Challenger or a 1984 Volkswagen Jetta diesel. They have a great looking body that just makes you want one when you look at it.

Mustang. I'm not sure what year but there is an older model that is so cool. One of my friends has a black one - she doesn't drive it much anymore but it's a fun car.

Mustang all the way. It has spanned generations and is as hot now as ever. It doesn't even need commercials to sell.
