Actually the song's just called "Ghost Town" by the specials. And, in case anyone is wondering, the song is about the Specials' hometown of Coventry.

Wow! So many dewbrie heads in one place! If you don't know what a questions about, why answer it? Congratulations to the bloke who copy and pasted, you know how to copy and paste!!!! Wooohooo!!!!!

I do remember the good old days before the ghost town, Coventry used to be a better place than it is now, they 'improved' it not too long ago, which basically meant they chucked all the shops out of the centre and into the retail parks, so that people without cars couldn't get there! Great, wonderful, isn't Coventry excellent?

In 1981 (when 'Ghost Town' was released) Britain was in a state of crisis. Rising unemployment and anger towards the Thatcher administration -- the most unpopular government of the post-war era, The Special's hit single 'Ghost Town' (following their eponymous first album and less popular "More Specials") was not only a peculiarly unsettling record, but a uniquely prescient one.

An article written specifically on this song can be found at http://www.guardian.co.uk/friday_review/story/0,3605,663359,00.html

I didn't appreciate any of the political context when the single first came out but as a young Rude Boy in Southern California there was nothing more exciting -- particularly with weird ska-departure found in 'More Specials' and the obviously growing lack of interest in the band by Terry Hall. Sadly, it was the last record The Specials would record as the true and original band.

Yes, 'cause I'm old. I remember when you felt safe in Coventry at night. I remember when you could catch a bus home late at night.
I remember when there were theatres and cinemas in the town centre.
I remember Coventry before the council 'improved' it.

YES! I AM that old!!!! :P
Well, Chaventry.............errrm, I mean Coventry, used to be better than it is now, but it was really dark when the precinct was covered. The trouble is, like Jessiferjones said, the problem is that all the shops have moved to the retail parks etc.
