Well I asked this question and got 43 Answers but I saw this place and I Am Bound to get more. lol.

I think Jimi Hendrix. Cause he Could Make Distortion Really Easily With NO WHAMMY and was the first to do that. If he could do that then, then what could he do now with all the technology we have to make the sound that he did?

my other favorites would have to be: Slash, Toto's Guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, Etc. What do you think?

Yeah But If Jimi Hendrix was still alive then Stevie Ray Vaughn Wouldn't be able to keep up! LOL. Well I have some of Stevie ray Vaughn's CD's But I think that he is TOO Out There. Unlike Jimi Hendrix. He was Just Right.

David Gilmour is my personal favorite. He's probably not the greatest that ever lived...but he is to me.

OMG, no one has mentioned Stevie Ray Vaughn!

Absolutely Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Btw, he did an excellent remake of Hendrix's "Little Wing"

I'd also say BB King, but he's not dead yet ;)

Judging from your profile, I'd say your guitar licks are pretty "fly".
I ran your question by my guitarist, Steve "The Colonel" Cropper, generally regarded as the #2 guitarist in the world, topped only by Hendrix. He said, "Who am I to argue with the world's opinion?"

And I agree.

If you are ever up by Calumet City, stop by and let's do some jammin'.

You guys need to check out Danny Gatton.
As a technician he might be tops. Extremely versatile.
He never got famous, but he rocked.
