Family life as a unit is more important than any of it's single parts. Each unit needs to 'need' the other parts in order for good balance within the group. If the dominate female of the family has economic independence, and no longer 'needs' her man for that, it breaks down the entire structure. Divorce, single parents, kids with less quality supervision and emotional stability resulting in breakdown of social norms and positive social behaviors are disadvantages of women with economic independence.

Men and women are different. We each have different strengths and weaknesses. Men are best at being head of household bringing home the bacon, and feel their best when they succeed at this and are appreciated for this. Women are best at creating a 'home' and nurturing/raising the offspring, and feel their best when they succeed at this and are appreciated for this. Women are usually always the 'glue' in a family. I know there are exceptions to this, but I'm just talking in general.

There are those who feel that women leaving the home and family to work has had a destabilizing effect on family life. Many women have had to go to work out of economic necessity, even though they might prefer to stay at home and concentrate on raising their children. Also, the high divorce rate and the large number of single family homes has made it necessary for many women to seek financial independence and not just as a lifestyle choice.

I can not think of any disadvantages from the womans perspective. Surely she would improve her life, her family's life and improve her community by contributing to the economy and society. Any problems that are a result of this would most likely be initiated by persons (directly or indirectly) by their negative comments, behavior and possible obstacles that they create

It is not unusual for women to work outside the home, whether it was factory's or farming. It was not unusual for multi generations to live in one home. The older momma took care of babies and cooking and cleaning. EVERYONE WORKED TOGETHER TO MAKE A HAPPY HOME
