Without specific information, I would have to guess that the idler spring has come off... Look for the pulley that actuates the drive system, I imagine the spring is what holds the idler pulley back when it is not engaged. There are holes where the spring mounts, just look for the corresponding mount holes in the idler arm and mower body. Hope this helps...

It sounds like it could have fallen off from anywhere on the thing. Pictures or more of a description might help.
Maybe you could take the spring and the mower to a repair place and ask them to look at it.

Or, if you still have the manual, does it have any pictures in there that identify the spring that fell off? Maybe that could help to figure out where it goes.

go to jackssmallengines.com go to parts look up, check on snapper, enter your model # and you will find all picture diagrams with every part on your mower and actually part numbers to order if you may need
