In some states, Florida comes to mind but there are numerous others, bad checks are severely punished. Even if they're yours.

Your name on them makes no difference, writing bad checks can land you in jail.
My husband's 21 year old niece did it, and she was arrested and spent several months in jail. She also had to pay restitution to the stores she wrote the checks to, which was nearly six thousand dollars. And I also had a friend who's boyfriend wrote bad checks, and they arrested for it. He also had to pay back a lot in restitution. If you write bad checks on someone else account, that's just going to be another charge, because it's forgery. But when it's your own account, and you know you don't have the money in there to cover the checks, yeah, it's still very illegal. It can also cause you trouble later in life with banks not allowing you to open accounts and stores not allowing you to write checks. Everything is in a computer now days, and if you can't write a check at one store, it's pretty likely you can't write them at any.
I don't know if you're planning on writing some bad check, but I would seriously think about it, because you will end up getting caught.

YES!!! It doesn't matter who you write the checks to, or on your account or someone elses. If you do not have the money in your account then you are in deep trouble. I have a friend who did this a she spent about a year locked up in the cross bar hotel.
