You can use the same device that people use to transmit from their Satellitte radios. Cost depends on the strength of the tansmitter and how clear it is. Frequencys are FM and regulated by the Government depending on where you live usually 88 - 108 MHz Mine works pretty good and I can tune it in even at my nieghbours homes. Here is a good source for transmitters and information.

PS Make sure it is a stereo Transmitter.

I know that some stores that sell car audio products carry small FM transmitters and/or modulators into which one can run a portable device like an mp3 player. One then tunes to a certain FM frequency and hears the audio fed to the transmitter; but since these are for automotive use, the signal may not reach very far, and if many barriers are between the transmitter and receivers, the reception might not be good.

If you were willing to try it, though, you would need a 12 Volt power source and you would want to run the computer's audio output into the transmitter/modulator, but you might want to experiment with a car's source (usually the cigarette lighter with an adapter), the radios you would be using, and distance and obstacles before buying or building one.
