If you use a gun to make a hole in your ear make sure it is a small caliber like a .22. Don't use a .45 or even worse a shotgun.

the gun is basically stapling the earring in...the needle cuts a nice little hole for it. Keep in mind that the gun being used has been used on other people...and does everyone know in 2006 that alcohol/peroxide/etc does not kill blood born pathogens? that gun can and most likely will have another persons blood/tissues on it which can end up in your new cartilage piercing to say nothing of the fact that the blunt force which rams that post through there can also crack your cartilage. Have it done by a professional who spent more than 4hrs learning to pierce

Definately go with a needle, go to a tattoo and piercing pallor with a good reputation for cleanliness as well as piercers with good reputations. It may sound scarier, but its cleaner, and the person who will perform it wont be some teenager getting paid minimum wage to do it. These people will also make sure you recieve the correct cleaning instructions for dealing with your piercing. Lots of people clean their piercings with peroxide, or antibacterial soap, which is bad bad bad! It dries out the piercing, making it more prone to infection.

The pain actually, isnt bad. I had my nose done with a needle, 3 times (the piercing kept falling out, and those close up fast!) and really, its just a pinch. Im sure the ear isnt as bad as the nose either, because, lets face it, the nose is thicker. Honestly, if you want a quality, clean, healthy, professional piercing, go to a piercing artist with a good reputation, who knows what they are doing. It may be more expensive, but to avoid infection and because your trusting your body in someone elses hands, its worth it to get someone with experience who has a liscence. Also, the selection of jewelry will probably be wider, and of a better quality, which once again, will yield less of a chance of you getting an infection. Good luck!

I had that done about 10 years ago. They used a gun and it did hurt more than a regular piercing, but not for too long. I didn't sleep on that ear for at least a month, though. Just keep it clean and keep the stud in that they used for a good long time - maybe 3 months. It isn't that bad. Good Luck!

Well, either way, its still gonna be a needle. If you are thinking of doing it yourself, I wouldn't recommend it. Leave it to a professional, who will most likely use a gun to quickly pierce whatever part you want done.

The pain itself is largely subjective- that is, its different for everyone, and it also depends on how many nerve endings you have in that particular spot. Hopefully you tolerate pain well and don't have too many nerves in that spot.

The gun really doesn't hurt. It's just a pinch. Happens so fast, you don't have time to react to it. It's a lot better than you think. Needle takes longer.

I had my ears pierced both ways, and both times my earlobes got infected. I cleaned them every day and I only bought the good earrings. Just can't have pierced ears, that's all.
