Trimco urethan (I believe) caulking was used on the hairline cracks on the stucco. The hairline crack got pretty big over the spot where the water came through. Can stucco be put over this? Also, I think it would be a good idea to go with the hose to be sure all cracks were covered? I have a person (who supposedly does waterproofing and caulking as his business)who is doing this for me, but he just covered the drywall, hole and all, with plaster. I asked him to replace the drywall and he said he would come back to do this. What else should I know? My feeling is that he is trying to do as little work as possible. I'm so glad I found this link. Thank you all for your help.

You seem to have two separate questions here. Hairline cracks in stucco can be calked. Cracks 1/4" or larger in stucco should have new stucco worked into the joints.

Cracks or holes in stucco can be patched with drywall tape and joint compound.

i think you should take that stuff out of the cracks, and re-stucco...you might have to make the crack a little bigger first.
