Absolutely Not! Nor one's which bash men, glamorize drugs, innumerable felonies, or careless sex! In this day and age Top 40 is almost exclusively those things! A great rhythm or kickin' beat do NOT constitute good music! You see, I have several kids whose ages range from 15 to 11. Instead of just hearing the "music" parts, they listen to the lyrics now, too. I have been screening their exposure (for years), pointing out just what it is these songs are all talking about, and the words turn my kids off (THANK YOU, LORD!).

We usually listen to "kid-friendly" stations and Christian hit stations (which really CAN rock!).

I want my kids to have the self-respect to say no to as many of the stupid things that are glamorized in popular music that they are as humanly capable of doing! Of course, this mind set goes far above and beyond the scope of music as society as a whole perpetuates careless sexuality and living on the edge, so I have quite a task before me!

Not consciously. I think lyrics that degrade more than half of the human race show the ignorance of the writer. My mom was good to me, so I like women, for the most part - it still depends on the person actually being referred to - Ann Coulter or Mother Theresa? Actually, I'm working on a song that makes fun of men, and I am one! :)

I love answering a question with a question:

Does this sort of music accurately reflect society? Are there so many songs degrading women because so many women's behavior (actions, speech, dress) degrades themselves?

As a single father of three little girls I look around at popular culture and I don't see very many young women that are very good role models for girls today.

Honey almost ALL of the human population listens to songs that degrade women, men and women alike. We listen to songs about shakin our booties and showin it off or sumthing along that line, and men listen to songs about smackin that booty and the like.....we are a generation of degradation among both sexes, back to the beginning of music its been the same thing, just not as bad as these days......But lately music is kinda running out of things to sing about....its really lame, music will be gone soon and no one is noticing it...

I have listened to 50 cent and Snoop Dog. I like their music...the beat, mainly. I don't like lyrics that downgrade women, but I don't always know what they are singing about until someone else tells me. My boyfriend likes this song by David Banner which I think is disgusting. I forget the name of it but he sings about wanting a girl to "touch" herself on the dance floor. He also likes Too Short. I hate songs that are outright sexual. But, like everyone, if the beat is good, the words are catchy, and the timing is right...I can be a hypocrit. I do like Slow Motion by Juvinile.

I can't really understand what the obsession with music industry that objectifys women...

50 years ago it was about romance and love..

40 years ago it was about sex

30 years ago it was about drugs and sex

20 years ago it was about Money and sex

10 years ago it's about pop music and sex.

Now It's about Bling and Sex...

Where did we go wrong?

Women became pieces of meat to be carted out and objectifed...by the media... and sex sells... just a little outline of our moral decay.

And this is coming from a guy.
