How about a huge raffle or silent auction, you could telephone or visit local businesses in your town/area and ask them would they be kind enough to donate a prize, get in touch with your local newspaper and get them to do a story on your trip and also ask for raffle prizes through the article too, do you know anyone who has long hair that they would be good enough to have cut or shaved off to help raise the much needed funds you require, if local businesses don't want to offer a prize then maybe they might be kind enough to sponsor you on your bike trek, hope your successful and it all goes well, good luck.

Shouldn't you have worked this out before you decided on the week long bike trek?
We have just paid out £350 per mile for a sponsored walk along the Pennine Way.

Try G2Bay. This is a social networking site where people help each other make and save money. People post their photos, blogs, news, product and service reviews and talk about the stocks they own. Every user gets a Million Dollar Page where advertisers pay to find the right customers. The more hits you get on your page, the more money advertisers will give you. You can specify why you need the money and people can either donate it or buy ads on your Million Dollar page.

How about "Crab Night" meaning all you can eat crab.
Also how a bout a food stall in the markets? I am a Filipino, when my son went for a field trip that costs over 2k, I raised money by making lumpia (spring rolls) I sold them by the packet of one hundred. We took orders from neighbors, friends, etc. They were very popular and my son raised over 1k. It gave him a reality check at a very young age that money is not easy to come by. A good lesson to learn by a middle school age child. Goodluck to you and your son's bike trek.

a sponsored event like, football match or a short run or swim or a 24HR fast ask the kids what they think, they can be quite resourceful at time.
