Her period will be irregular for 2-3 years.

At her age, your friend need not worry about her periods just yet. Firstly when girls start their periods, it sometimes takes around 2 years for the periods to settle down and become regular. Other reasons that her periods could be irregular include her undergoing a lot of stress lately, sexual intercourse leading to pregnancy, starting a severe exercise regimen or losing a lot of weight quickly. The other more serious (but not that serious) possibility is that she might have polycystic ovaries which many girls have nowadays. The treatment for polycystic ovaries include Metformin 500mg twice daily to control the weight, exericse to lose weight, birth control pills to regulate the hormone levels etc. She should go to a Gynaecologist to make sure nothing serious is wrong with her.

Is this her first year having a Period?

If it is then yes it's quite normal for girls to have inconsistent Periods...don't worry about it, but if she has her period for more then a year and still has not stabilized, she should go see a doctor.

It is normal. When girls are younger and are just starting menstrating it takes a while to become "regular". I wasn't regular until I turned 18, and then I went on birth contol. Sometimes it would be regular for a couple months, then it would go away and I wouldn't have it for a couple months.

The 1st year is like that it can come and go and sometimes start really early or late. If shes not in any pain down there than she is fine. If she is she should go see a doctor, just to make sure she in good health and that its a stage. hope this helps her out :)

It doesn't necessarily mean that something is wrong, but I do strongly urge her to have her parent make her an appointment with an OB/GYN as soon as possible to have them check her out. Don't seek advice from friends and family who are not doctors. Go straight to the professional.

All of us mature at different rates. My best friend is college was a girl who did not get her first period until she was 19...then, BOY, did she really develop!

She has nothing to worry about.

Yes it is very common for young woman who have been menstrating for only 1-2 years to be irregular. If sexually active she needs to be on birth control and be safe, get pregnancy test through her health agency free, with out parents.

If she's just getting started, she may not be regular yet. It sometimes takes a couple of years to become regular. If she is worried, she needs to see her doctor.
