Approximately one in three girls is sexually abused before the age of 18
Approximately one in four girls is sexually abused before the age of 14
Approximately one in six boys is sexually abused before the age of 16.
Times national survey found that 27% of women and 16% of men reported being sexually abused prior to age 18
In the adult retrospective study, victimisation was reported by 27 percent of the women and 16 percent of the men.
Abuse on boys seem to be dealt with poorly compared to girls, could be to do with the fact that not as many boys will report to the authorities if they are abuse, whereas more girls will. So the authorities may not believe that there is a big issue here to deal with as they believe boys hardly ever get abuse. which obviously isn't the case. Also due to stereotypical view in society that boys don't get abused.

Today's society and Law system is generally gender-biased. Since the past, females have been perceived as the weaker sex (at least physically). Hence this perception has been brought forward into the present day. However, the Law doesnt seem to have caught up with this, and we are know that females hold a much higher authority than in the past. They are allowed to think, have access to education et cetera. So basically, society still holds the view that only females are vulnerable to abuse and that guys, being stronger, are not. They do not consider that abuse could be psycological and tend to dismiss it.

Maybe it's because males are seen as preditors whereas females are seen as the more vulnerable sex? I agree that it's terrible and both sexes should be dealt with in the same way but I think that males are seen as the hunters so in a lot of people's eyes, hunter praying on hunter isn't as shocking as hunter praying on the hunted!

It's both ways, sad to say. We only get to hear about the ones that are made public, but there are thousands of girls and boys being abused everyday

Well, the old discrimination that girls are supposed to be weak and demure is still rooted very deep in our cores. As a result, people tend to perceive females as weak and therefore they endeavour to protect them more than males.
