I moved to a different state a few years ago and, since then, I have been feeling so home sick. My husband and I are thinking of moving to Florida and thinking about that old home sick feeling prompted me to ask -- when you move, how long does the home sick feeling last??

It all depends on how well you like where you're living and what's waiting for you after you move. I moved from a city where I lived for 2 years and had some friends, but no family to a city where I had lots of family and some friends already. I wasn't home sick for a day -- it was a great decision. If you're moving to Florida, hopefully it's to be closer to people you know. If that's not the case, then I'd advise you to get out right away and start meeting people. You can also keep up with people from your old city via phone and e-mail and that should help you feel better.

The great thing about living in different locations is that you get to experience so much - and meet so many different people. But I agree - then you always miss someone somewhere. It takes nearly 1.5 years for me to get used to a new place. And even though I now live in the state of my birth, I'm still homesick now and then for an exotic overseas location where I lived over 10 years ago.

I moved from Australia to California 13 years ago, my two children aged 19 and 17 didnt want to go and remained in Australia. For the last 13 years living in California, I am always homesick not only because of my two boys but I also miss the ocean, I miss the environment, etc. etc. I am currently in Australia right now for two months and I am seriously thinking of coming back here. To answer your question, homesickness last forever.

YOu need to embrace your new community and make friends, join social activities and get involved in things. The more you think about it, the more you will get homesick. If it gets too bad, can you move back?
