Bicarbonate of sodium won't sterilize anything. You can use straight vinegar on a rag or paper towel, or slosh it around in the jug to sterilize it. Vinegar kills germs on contact. Drain it and use it. Otherwise, a ten percent solution of chlorine bleach and water will sterilize almost anything. The way to figure the ten percent is to remember that there are 16 tbsp. to a cup. So you add one tbsp. of bleach to a little less than 2/3 of a cup of water. I'll let you do the math.

Hope this helps.

Despite bi carb is great, it does not work to sterilize. Maybe just for cleaning but not for that purpose.
