This is the e-mail that I received:
" At this coffee morning I am hoping to have organized some kind of event or gathering as your first society event. I would very much appreciate if you could give me some ideas of what i should organize, as it is your event! Some suggestions I have come up with are- coffee morning, barbecue, bar crawl. As I havn't met any of you yet, I have no idea what kind of social activities you enjoy so I would love you to get back to me asap with some ideas and I will do my best to make them work!"
The ideas I have so far are:
10 pin bowling
Cinema
Meal out
Any other suggestions/ideas would be great.

Until everyone meets one another it will be difficult to know what everyone likes and dislikes.
Get to know everyone at the coffee meeting.
I think a good suggestion would be a meal out and then if people want to go out drinking then they have the choice.
From my own experience as a mature student everyone wants to do different things so just go with the flow.
And a word of advice - try to stay away from the strange ones otherwise you'll be stuck with them for three years!

Remember, you guys are MATURE students, so you should stay away from all the things those younger brats are doing. You have worked REALLY hard to be able to be where you are now. You don't have parents paying for every little thing you want...in fact, you probably have kids at home that you still have to take care of while you try to find time for studying. So....
I think the very best ideas would be something you can do with your families, that bring them into your school experience somewhat. Maybe picnics that include the immediate family's held on the university grounds. Barbeques hosted by different groups every month, etc.

Why not have a school disco type thing. It could be fun. Or a toga party there always good.
