You might get someone to pay you to cut it down. Walnut is considered the crem de la crem of wood. It is very valuable. A 2 ft diameter tree is worth well over $1000.

Have no idea where you live-- but the answerer was correct-- walnut trees are very valuable to woodworkers, carpenters who make furniture. I had some property secretly logged for the walnut-- no I didn't get a dime.
My suggestion-- put an ad in the freebe newspaper where you live-- see if the local TV station would like to do a human interest story about this magnificent tree! and get the info spread around-- you will get nibbles I do believe.
Then you either have them pay you for the wood-- pay for the removal and they get the wood or any combination-- woodwokers would like long planks-- and other lengths that you and I wouldn't think of--
good luck

Maybe you could have some one trim it for you? Living in AZ I hate to think of a tree being destroyed. Of course if it's rotten or dying take it down.
If the rotting walnuts are the problem why not rake them up? Or better yet hire a local kid to.

i agree that cutting down the tree is not good .but if you have to ,like i did , i just had a walnut tree ,that was 12 feet across the stump, removed because the ants got to it and it was dropping huge limbs on my house . it cost around 1500.00 to have cut down, then i cut it up and cleaned up the mess to save money then i could give the Wood away to friends that helped clean up the mess. in the early spring there is less mess to deal with and no bird nests yet.

on the fall when it looses the leaves the branches are leas heavier, the cost may be about 3 to 4 thousand dollars but if you have homeowners insurance and you explain to them that your tree might damage other properties they might help you with the expenses or part of it.

I know we are not there to actually see your tree, but why not try the middle ground and have it professionally trimmed? It would cost a lot less and you would still have your tree.

Most tree experts charge from $2,000 up, depending upon where the tree is located. If the tree is not hurting anything, I'd leave it alone.

walnut wood is not good for burning, it is good for making furniture, if you have to cut the tree, sell it to someone who can use the wood.
