FDI stands for Foriegn Direct Investment. It is usually used when talking about the level of foriegn investment in a country, not a company - although in some places local partners are required.

FDI in company terms would be how much money foriegn firms invested in terms of cash - regardless of what they got in return, equity, an alliance, a factory, etc.

Equity is ownership in a company, which is to say that shares can be transferred to another party, effectively giving them voting rigths and ownership of a % of the firm.
