Refer your question .

I believe it is not possible. 50 is an even number. Even numbers are represented as 2n, where n is any number. 5, the number of days is odd and does not have a factor of 2 to make it even. The product of two odd numbers is always odd. Since 50 is an even number 5 times any odd number cannot equal an even number.

If this is a homework problem, either I am wrong or there is more to the problem ;-)

he divides the money equally among the 5 days, giving him 10 dollars per day. he chooses to only spend 9 dollars on each of those days.

your conditions are met, he devide the money on 5 days, he spend an odd number each day

Odd number is denoted by 2a+1 where a is nonnegative integer.
In five days we can denote the numbers as
50 = 2a+1 + 2b+1 + 2c+1 + 2d+1 + 2e+1
45 = 2(a+b+c+d+e)
Observe that because a,b,c,d,e are integers, then the equation cannot be solved. Therefore he can not do that.
