I'm 37 weeks today (my third baby), and yesterday morning my Dr. stripped my membranes. I'm having contractions on & off (but that's no change, I have been for 4+ months now, these are just a little stronger). So... since it's been almost 24 hours now, should I assume I'm one of the 2/3 it doesn't work for?

It doesn't always work. Some say that having sex after having your membranes stripped can make it more likely to work.

My OB stripped my membranes with my first w/o my permission. I was 3-4 cm and 100% effaced at the time and it still took me a week to go into labor. No induction method will work if your body and your baby aren't ready for labor to come.

Relax and be patient. 38 to 42 weeks is the normal length of most pregnancies. This one will come out eventually, just like your other two did!

Hey there! when I was 38 weeks I was tightly closed and 0% effaced my midwife told me to take evening primrose oil. (it's tablets you can buy in any pharmacy in the herbal section. it helps thin things out and get your body ready for labor. The same thing as sex does if you were to have sex. So she told me to take that and have sex. I went back in a week and my midwife stripped my membranes. I was 2cm and 80% effaced at that time. I continued to take the primrose and had sex a couple times (it's not very fun at that time) and I went into labor a week later right on my due date. So, I guess what I am saying it give it a little more time and who knows it may happen sooner then you think. Good luck and congrats on your baby!

My dr stripped my membranes when I was at 40 weeks and 4cm and I went into labor about 12 hours later.
